Weber Scientific, a trusted leader in the food and dairy distribution industry, sought to upgrade much of their aging server and application infrastructure, and increase the overall reliability of all systems. A balance of enterprise-level on-premise systems and key Cloud applications provided by RED74 provided the solution.

The current ERP and CRM systems required upgrades, and the Microsoft operating systems for the servers were nearing end-of-life. In addition, the Microsoft Exchange email system was running an older version which had maximum database size restrictions, causing issues with both day-to-day email and customer invoicing. Weber Scientific was also in the process of migrating their website to a different hosting platform, and so all the various upgrade projects were contingent on a properly timed and implemented rollout plan.
The design and project management teams at RED74 worked with Weber Scientific leadership to devise a systematic deployment, wherein each phase of the upgrade process was carefully implemented so as not to adversely affect the other phases. The on-premise infrastructure was upgraded with the latest VMWare virtualization technology, as well as the latest Windows server operating systems and Microsoft SQL supporting the backend of the newly upgraded ERP and CRM systems. Weber Scientific’s email system was migrated to RED74’s Hosted Exchange services, which both eliminated storage ceilings and provided a business continuity solution. Email systems would remain accessible even in the unlikely event that both the primary and secondary Internet connections were to fail.
An added benefit was the addition of Microsoft Skype for Business, which introduced IM and online meeting technology integrated into Microsoft Outlook. All on-premise services are protected with a hybrid cloud BDR system, ensuring almost zero downtime and productivity loss in the event of system failure.
RED74 also helped coordinate the website hosting migration with the hosting vendor, and assisted them with connectivity to the new SQL system for online order processing. All the associated vendors and support teams were kept informed through RED74’s liaison services.
